E - Dr. Memory pictures a letter "E" by seeing an Eagle in the shape of a capital letter "E." You can see it at the upper left of the picture above. It looks like and sounds like the letter "E." In English the letter "E" makes a long "e" sound as in eagle, and a short "e" sound as in egg. The Spanish letter "e" is somewhat controversial. In Dr. Memory's research he found that it makes various sounds in different parts of the world.
Even Spanish text books disagree on its sound or sounds. We all know there are different pronunciations given to various sounds or words in different regions of the United States. You will hear one pronunciation in New England, a different one in the Midwest, a different one in the South etc. The Spanish sound for the letter "e" may have different pronunciations as well, but this course will use the
long "a" sound as in
ape for the letter "e" most all of the time. The Spanish letter "e" sounds like a long "a" in English as in the word ape when it comes at
the end of a syllable or word. This long "a" sound isnt drawn out as much as the English long "a" but is cut off more sharply. But, if a letter "e" appears at the beginning or in the middle of a syllable in Spanish it is pronounced like the
short "e" as in
egg. As a result, you see the Eagle to the left above laying an egg on the middle of a big inning, beginning, on a baseball scoreboard to represent the short "e" sound as heard in
the word egg. You also see a movie screen with the words The End on it. The eagle had been watching a movie. An Ape, representing the long "a" sound as heard in the word ape is on the screen as well to show you that the
long "a" sound is heard when a letter "e" appears at the end of a
